I did the short-cut version of this walk (book 2 walk 1) with SWC on a cold, bright winter Sunday. This is a pretty good walk, with fine views in the second half. The Russell Arms near the end of the walk, was full, so we had to sit outside, which seemed OK at first, but we started to get a bit cold.
It's then just a short stretch back to the station but two fields had been ploughed up, making for a slog and a lot of mud! Luckily there is a pub by the station.

Rickmansworth to Chesham
This walk was with West London Ramblers and seemed ideal for a winter Saturday where I wanted to get back early, if not too exciting. In the event it was 10-11 miles rather than the advertised 8, and certainly a much better walk than expected.
Lunch stop was The Red Lion in Cheines. Good beer selection. At the end a few of us went to the Queen's Head in Chesham, which was a lovely Fullers pub with a log fire in the public bar, but very expensive (£3.70 for ordinary Braksperes).

Princess Risborough to Great Misenden
This was a great walk, but on a rather gloomy day. The clocks had gone back but time wasn't an issue. Got the 0936 from Marylebone and the the 1616 return from Great Missenden. Lovely lunch time pub at the Gate Inn at Bryant's Bottom. Wood fire and welcome to walkers. Pride, Doom Bar and Black Sheep.

Ockley to Warnham
This was a delightful 10 mile walk on a beautiful autumn day. It is a SWC walk, book 1 walk 47. There were 6 of us on the 1031 from Victoria. Lunch stop was the Scarlett Arms in Walliswood. Good lunch but spoilt by the bangers and mash being too salty.
No camera, so missed out on some leaf fall pictures.
Probably paid too much for train ticket, trying to get the right zone 6 station on-line. Need to check the validity of East Croyden to Horsham option on the line via Dorking.

Lewes to Saltdean
This was a lovely SWC (volume 2 walk 24) walk across the South Downs to the coast at Saltdean. Four of us in late summer sunshine. Quite nice pub The Abergavenny Arms in Rodmell. Not too keen on the best bitter and had to eat my sandwich on a nearby grass verge. The food looked OK.
I got the bus back to Brighton from Saltdean in time to catch the 1629.

Uxbridge to Moor Park (London Loop)
What a great walk this is. After an unpromising start outside Uxbridge Tube Station, you are soon walking a canal bank. It's not too long before the houses are left behind. We made a big mistake stopping at the Horse and Barge, and should have held out to the halfway point for the Carp Inn.
After a short road stretch it is back to the woods and fields with just one more short stretch on a dangerous country road. About 9.5 miles in total, return from Moor Park Tube.
For walk details, see London Loop section 12 and 13.

Around Cookham and on to Maidenhead
This was a lovely Saturday Walkers Club walk on a crisp February Saturday. You start in Cookham and walk around it to get back for lunch. in the Kings Arms (an excellent pub with Doombar and local Rebellion IPA). From there it is a Thames Path walk into Maidenhead.
Stupidly left my camera a to home so no pictures from the ridge across the Thames valley. It's a fairly flat walk with no stiles and just a few gates, so rapid progress.

We ended with tea and cakes at Cafe Mila in Godalming - charmingly inefficient - recommended.

Reading to Henley
leaving Reading |
The path continues to Shiplake, with an option to catch a train, or take another break at the Baskerville Arms and a good pint of Timothy Taylor.
From there just a couple of miles to Henley for tea and cakes at the Chocolate Theatre Cafe Bar (they are on the river, and were called The Henley Tea Rooms) before the train home.
